WESTCHESTER COMMUNITY COLLEGE RECEIVES $25,000 GRANT FROM CON EDISON
Con Edison has awarded a $25,000 grant to Westchester Community College
to expand the Con Edison Green Faculty Learning Community. First funded last
year, this is an ongoing effort to integrate sustainability throughout
various curricula at the college.
The project was initially funded by Con Edison in 2010. The expansion
will allow the college to recruit additional faculty and to expand its
effort to include staff and administrators directly involved with college
operations. The project will have a college-wide impact as the institution
builds a sustainability curriculum library including online resources,
present expert speakers, facilitate peer-to-peer learning, and create a
guide to help faculty integrate “green” information into courses. Through
the Learning Community project, students will gain both an understanding of
environmental science and will learn how sustainability can be incorporated
into their fields of current study and later in the workplace.
The grant reflects Con Edison’s active interest in building awareness of
sustainability issues and the college’s deep commitment to environmental
stewardship. “Westchester Community College is truly our community’s college
and is a leader in education regarding various aspects of sustainability,”
says Marc Huestis, Vice President of Construction, Con Edison. “We are
excited about this important project and are pleased that we are able to
continue our support,” adds Huestis, who is also a member of the Westchester
Community College Foundation Board.
